We let ourselves down says Simon Katich ? Cricket News Update

Following their tame exit from the ongoing Champions League T20, Perth Scorcher?s veteran batsman, Simon Katich, admitted that they?ve got only themselves to blame for.

Despite not being among the favourites, the Scorchers still entered the event as dark horses owing to the wealth of experience they could count on in the shape of Katich, skipper Marcus North and the overseas duo of Herschelle Gibbs, Paul Collingwood. Also with the Marsh brothers in their ranks, many expected them to at least, give the other renowned sides a serious run for their money.

However, as it stands, the Scorchers are bottom of Group A, having failed to win a single match so far. Sunday night?s defeat at the hands of Delhi Daredevil eventually sealed their fate and they have nothing but pride to salvage when they take on Auckland Aces in their final game.

Much was dependent on their batting, especially after Mitchell Johnson, their only recognized international fast bowler, opted to join Indian Premier League outfit Mumbai Indians. However, they failed to kick-on in the event, with the top and middle-order offering little.

The only player to score a half-century from their side was Mitchell Marsh but that too was in a lost cause. They showings in a must-win game against the Daredevils were hardly of note, where they posted a lowly 121 before eventually losing out by a narrow three-wicket margin.

Having been the inform team in the inaugural Big Bash League, Katich understands the ill feeling among the players but was not blind to the side's shortcomings, admitting that the team got what they ?deserved. He attributed the poor showings to a lack of preparation ? the players have not played together since being beaten by Sydney Sixers in the final of the BBL.

"We got what we deserved," Katich said. "We didn't prepare as well as we should have, and we paid the price."

"I'm not going to go into details about that, but we got what we deserved, simple as that. We haven't shown what we're capable of in this tournament. We had a very good Big Bash last year, but in this tournament we've let ourselves down. The platform was there, the execution wasn't."
