I Love Coconut Oil ? Here's Why You Should ... - Aromatherapy Blog

I absolutely love virgin coconut oil ? so much, in fact, that I use it to cook my food and even as a supplement for my entire family. All three of us use it on a daily basis!

The great thing about coconut oil is that you can use it on both the inside and outside of your body. You can use it all by itself, or you can mix it with other essential oils to get even more benefits.
If you haven?t jumped on the coconut oil bandwagon yet, here?s why you should:

1. It?s got antibacterial properties

When you use it on your skin, coconut oil can even get rid of the bacteria that cause acne. In fact, two of its main ingredients ? Capric Acid and Lauric Acid ? form a protective layer over your skin and prevent bacteria from invading your pores in the first place!

Combine 1/4 cup coconut oil with 5 drops of Tea Tree, 5 drops of Bergamot and 5 drops of Lavender. ?After washing your face with a mild soap, take a small amount of this blend and apply with your fingertips all over your face.? Apply this oil only in the evening, Bergamot is phototoxic.

2. It?s got a ton of other skin benefits, too

Even if you don?t have acne, you can use coconut oil to promote your natural beauty. Start by mixing 1/4 cup coconut oil with 10 drops of Rose absolute, 5 drops of Geranium, and 5 drops of Lavender, and use it as your daily moisturizer. It won?t take long for your skin to look more supple and firmer!
Got really dry skin? Combine?1/4 cup coconut oil with 15 drops of Lavender, 10 drops of Frankincense, 5 drops of Geranium, and 2 drops of Lemongrass (for a nice fresh scent), and you?ll end up with the ultimate in moisture!
You can also use coconut oil to tackle more serious skin problems, like eczema. Simply mix ? cup coconut oil with 3 drops of Lavender and 2 drops of Blue Chamomile (both oils are natural anti-inflammatories), and rub it onto the affected area twice a day. Soon, you?ll look and feel a whole lot better!

3. It?s great for your hair

Coconut oil is a great scalp treatment for people who are suffering from things like head lice, dandruff, or seborrehic dermatitis. Just mix 1/4 cup of coconut oil with two drops each of Tea Tree, Lavender, Geranium, and Lemon.
Then, take one teaspoon of this blend, slather it all over your scalp, put on a shower cap, and sit around for about two hours. When you wash it off, be sure to use a sulfate-free shampoo. That way, you won?t have to worry about undoing all of the good stuff the oils left behind!
If you want to see the biggest scalp boost, leave the mixture on overnight. Just be sure to put a towel on your pillow case so that it doesn?t get stained!
Even if your scalp is otherwise-healthy, coconut oil can give you hair a much-needed boost by making it really shiny! That?s because it creates a protective shield around each strand that protects against dry air, humidity, and other environmental toxins.

4. It contains antioxidants

You?ve probably heard how great antioxidants are. They can do everything from fight off the tell-tale signs of aging (like wrinkles and age spots), to eliminate free radicals in your system.
But did you know that coconut oil is chock full of antioxidants?!

In fact, virgin coconut oil has extremely high levels of antioxidants. Recent studies show that people who consume coconut oil have a lower chance of developing heart disease.
And if you?re worried about using so much oil in your cooking, don?t be. Coconut oil is considered one of those ?healthy fats? that you?re supposed to incorporate into your diet. After all, everyone needs SOME fat in their diet ? just not the kind you get from potato chips and candy bars!

5. It doesn?t have any yucky side effects

Coconut oil is completely natural ? so you won?t have to worry about dealing with any uncomfortable side effects. It simply does what it?s supposed to do, without creating any additional problems along the way!

Now that you know some of the ways it can help you, take some time to use coconut oil for yourself. It
won?t take long for you to love it as much as I do!
