The sportswriter who made Twitter cry

This pic of brothers Greg Day, from left, Anthony Day and Steven Bennett inspired Richard Deitsch to ask Twitter users for their best photo moments.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sportswriter asks for photos that capture life's best moments
  • Hundreds of images have been shared so far
  • Births, proposals, reunions among the moments shared

(CNN) -- Richard Deitsch was perusing Twitter when one photo made him stop. At first glance it's unremarkable, not much different from any other victory photo. It's a bit grainy and shows three young men smiling and hugging.

One of the men had just won an NCAA hockey championship at Yale.

Deitsch said he was struck by something more than just the photo. He knew the man who posted it, Steven Bennett, host of a Buffalo-based sports podcast. Bennett is in the picture celebrating his younger brother's victory, despite having just spent more than six weeks in the hospital.

"You gotta come now," Bennett remembers his younger brother, Anthony Day, telling him over the phone. Bennett made it for the semifinal, which his brother's team won in overtime. For the final game, Bennett was joined by 23 family members, one of whom snapped the photo of all three brothers embracing.

"I thought to myself how remarkable it was to have an image of what was clearly one of the best moments of Steven's life," Deitsch said. "I wondered: How many others have a similar image? So I took to Twitter and asked," he said. He credited @Sports_Casters, one of Bennett's accounts, for the idea in his tweet.

And just like that, the heart of the Internet broke wide open.

"I could never have expected what came next," he said.

Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) has more than 84,000 followers on Twitter. He is a writer and reporter for Sports Illustrated and adjunct professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. He considers himself well-versed on the power of social media. By comparison, @Sports_Casters is a tiny account with only 676 followers. But as people began responding to Deitsch with their birth, reunion and marriage proposal photos, they were also sharing them with @Sports_Casters. Both were humbled and grateful for the opportunity to showcase the best of humanity.

Hundreds of photos have been shared with both accounts, and continue coming in, Deitsch said. Scrolling through his newsfeed, one finds photos of a child's first day of school and high school graduations. A child meeting a sibling for the first time and a baby recovering from open-heart surgery. But there are also unexpected moments of joy witnessed, like a long-married couple exchanging a final goodbye, hard-earned sports victories, and the day a woman opens her eyes after undergoing a heart and double-lung transplant.

Ryan Kaltenbach (@RyanKaltenbach) sent that photo. He said it was taken by his mother-in-law in February of 2012 as they waited for his wife, Sharlie, to open her eyes in a hospital room in Palo Alto, California.

Sharlie was born with cystic fibrosis, a genetic and potentially life-threatening illness that attacks the lungs. Ryan said in the eight years they had been married, he had seen her health deteriorate to the point that she required oxygen to do the simplest tasks, including playing with their then 5-year-old son.

In the 17 months since the surgery, Ryan says Sharlie is unrecognizable.

"She swims. She exercises every day. It's a 180-degree difference," he said.

When Ryan first saw Deitsch's request for photos of best moments, he immediately knew what to send. He says he looks up to Deitsch a lot and finds him a great person to follow on Twitter.

"I am stunned at the volume and how many strangers trusted me with their images," Deitsch says. "But I'm not stunned at the humanity because it exists on Twitter, even amid the hate and snark."

When asked what he learned from this experiment, he said, "It reinforced what I already know: The power of social media is stunning. Nothing about this was expected or planned which is why it's the best thing I've ever done on Twitter."

Lifetime

"Project Runway" host Heidi Klum and mentor Tim Gunn are the only clothed people in the show's poster for the new season.

"Project Runway" was not able to make it work, as mentor Tim Gunn might say.

The design competition's sexy new poster, which features Gunn and host/judge Heidi Klum dressed in costumes while naked female and male models worship at their feet, is not being allowed to go up on display in Los Angeles, Lifetime confirmed to Variety.

Some of the women's back ends and sideboobs are visible in the image. (See the full racy image on Klum's Twitter account.)

Variety reports that according to Los Angeles' Department of Building and Safety, signage that has "obscene matters" can be banned by the city.

The supermodel poked a little fun at the poster on Twitter Tuesday night, joking, ".@ProjectRunway Designers! We need clothing for these people! Fast!"

Season 12 of "Project Runway" premieres July 18 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.

China reportedly to lift ban on video game consoles

SlashGear writes, Back on January 28, we heard a rumor that China was considering lifting a ban on gaming consoles, something that was reported by Reuters. It has been six months, and now we?re hearing this again, only the sources claim that the lift will go in effect with a stipulation that game makers must produce the consoles in Shanghai?s free-trade zone. In the summer of 2000, the Chinese government elected to ban video game consoles due to concern of the effects they could have on the mental health of its young citizens, particularly concerning violent video games. Under the ban, video game consoles?

Full text of letter Aaron Hernandez sent New England Patriots before 2010 NFL Draft

Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was flagged by many NFL teams for "character concerns" before the 2010 draft, mostly because he smoked marijuana while at the University of Florida and was viewed as a high risk for a potential suspension once he reached the NFL.

Hernandez, viewed by many teams as a first-round talent, took a unique tactic to try to assuage teams' concerns: He wrote a letter to Patriots personnel executive Nick Caserio in which he admitted past mistakes and offered to take up to eight drug tests during the 2010 season if the Patriots were willing to draft him.

It is unclear if Hernandez also sent the letter to other teams. Here is the full text of the letter, which was written with help from Hernandez's agents at Athletes First:

Dear Mr. Caserio,

I am writing in regards to some of the feedback I am receiving from my agents, Florida coaches, and other personnel. These sources have indicated that NFL teams have questions about my alleged use of marijuana. I personally answered these questions during the pre-draft process, but understand that NFL teams want to conduct thorough due diligence before making the significant financial investment inherent in a high draft pick. I have no issue with these questions being asked, but thought that it made the most sense to communicate with you directly regarding this issue so you would not have to rely upon second-hand information.

Any information I volunteer to you about my past will be looked at with great skepticism as I am trying to get drafted as high as possible by an NFL team. As such, I thought that the best way to answer your questions and your concerns was to make a very simple proposition. If you draft me as a member of the New England Patriots, I will willfully submit to a bi-weekly drug test throughout my rookie season (8 drug tests during the 2010 regular season). In addition, I will tie any guaranteed portion of my 2010 compensation to these drug tests and reimburse the team a pro-rata amount for any failed drug test. My agents have explained that a direct forfeiture provision in my contract along these lines would violate the CBA rules. However, I have instructed them to be creative in finding a contract structure that would work on in the worst case scenario, I would donate the pro-rata portion of any guaranteed money to the team's choice of charities. My point is simple -- if I fail a drug test, I do not deserve that portion of the money.

I realize that this offer is somewhat unorthodox, but it is also the only way I could think of to let you know how serious I am about reaching my potential in the NFL. My coaches have told you that nobody on our Florida team worked harder than me in terms of workouts, practices or games. You have your own evaluation as to the type of impact I can have on your offense. The only X-factor, according to the reports I have heard, is concerns about my use of recreational drugs. To address that concern, I am literally putting my money where my mouth is and taking the financial risk away from the team and putting it directly on my back where it belongs.

In closing, I ask you to trust me when I say you have absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to me and the use of recreational drugs. I have set very high goals for myself in the NFL and am focused 100% on achieving those goals. So, test me all you want during my rookie year ... all of the results will be negative while I am having an overwhelmingly positive impact on the field.

Good luck with your preparations for the NFL Draft and feel free to contact me or my agency (Athletes First/David Dunn) with any questions.

Sincerely,

Aaron Hernandez
University of Florida

Patriots owner Robert Kraft, speaking publicly Monday for the first time since Hernandez was arrested, said the Patriots felt comfortable drafting Hernandez after receiving this letter, and didn't believe he had any other major off-field issues.

"The only thing I ever heard on Aaron Hernandez was he was very young, immature and potentially had problems presented in this letter," Kraft said. "Never saw signs of anything else."

FAQ: Are Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) Health ...

FAQ: Are Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) Health Insurance?

A Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) is not health insurance. Rather, it is an employer-sponsored healthcare and premium reimbursement program. And yet, an HRA benefit is often compared to (or mistaken as) health insurance. Why? Because many businesses offer a stand-alone?HRA benefit?as an alternative to offering traditional health insurance.

hra health insurance

But as the logic goes, if an HRA looks like an insurance plan, and acts like an insurance plan... isn't it an insurance plan? No. And here's why.

HRAs Are Medical Reimbursement Plans, Not Health Insurance

HRAs are an IRS-approved way for employers to reimburse employees for individual health insurance policies and eligible medical expenses. In other words, HRAs are a vehicle for tax-free healthcare and premium reimbursement.

An HRA is a Section 105 ERISA self-funded health plan. With a stand-alone HRA, the business steps away from selecting a specific insurance plan for all employees. Instead, the business allows employees to purchase a health insurance policy that fits their needs, and reimburses employees for eligible medical expenses tax-free up to the amount of their HRA allowance. This type of HRA benefit is also referred to as a defined contribution health benefit model.

Using an HRA is one of the only ways a business can pay for employees' individual health insurance plans in a compliant way. That's because HIPAA and ERISA restricts an employer's involvement in the sale or administration of employees' individual health insurance policies. Using a formal HRA benefit removes the employer from having any involvement?in the policies employees are purchasing. An HRA keeps the employer compliant with HIPAA, ERISA, and the IRS.

For more on details on HRA requirements and compliance see:?HRA plan requirements.

HRAs?- An Alternative to Traditional Health Insurance

Many small and medium businesses cannot offer health insurance coverage due to rising costs and minimum contribution and participation requirements.?Because of this, and because of new opportunities with health reform in 2014, many businesses see HRA benefits as a viable alternative to traditional group health insurance. This is because:

  1. In 2014, individual policies become guaranteed issue, and eliminate the non-economic (i.e. moral) factors from an employer?s decision-making process.

  2. Most employees will pay less for health insurance on the individual market due to federal subsidies available through the state health insurance Marketplaces.?

  3. For small businesses with less than 50 FTE employees,?there is no employer mandate?and no penalties for not offering group health insurance. And for many businesses with 50+ FTE employees, the total cost of paying the employer penalty (now delayed until 2015) plus providing an HRA defined contribution health benefit will be less expensive than group health insurance. Additionally, the only way for employers to give employees access to the individual premium tax subsidies is by?not offering group health insurance.?

A Guide To Building Muscle For Better Health! | Travel, fitness, life ,

Building muscle can be a challenging proposition. It can be devastating to not achieve the results you desire. The following article will help ensure your success.

TIP! Giving into your carnivorous side can help you build muscle. Eat approximately one gram of meat-protein per body pound.

Focus on important exercises such as the deadlift, squat, and the bench press. These three exercises are the foundation of a solid muscle-building regimen. They are exercises that are proven to build strength, increase muscle mass, and improve the effectiveness of future workouts. Try to utilize these crucial exercises into your workout routine.

TIP! As a source of motivation, set goals that are short-termed and reward yourself when each goal is attained. Because growing muscle requires you remain committed in the long run, it is extremely important that you constantly remain motivated.

Don?t forget carbohydrates when trying to build muscle. Carbs are vital for energy so that you can last an entire workout, and if you are short on them, your body converts your stored protein for energy instead.

TIP! Many people make the mistake of increasing their protein consumption as soon as they begin a muscle building regimen. Doing so may lead to excessive calorie consumption, which might then cause you to gain weight in the form of body fat.

If you plan on using any type of creatine supplement to help build your muscles, be very cautious, especially when taking them for an extended period of time. These supplements should not be used if you have any sort of kidney issues. They have been shown to cause heart arrhythmia, heart arrhythmia, and compartment syndrome. Adolescents using this supplement are particularly at the highest risk. Be sure you keep your doctor before starting use.

TIP! It is important to stay hydrated when building muscle. Unless your body is hydrated at all times, you run a higher risk of injury or muscle damage.

Do not extend your workouts to more than an hour.Your body will begin to produce cortisol, called cortisol, if you push beyond sixty minutes. Cortisol blocks testosterone and thwart your efforts to build muscle. Making sure workouts are less than an hour is the best results.

Many people make the mistake of increasing their protein they need in their diet at the beginning of their muscle development efforts.

TIP! Stick to a realistic schedule when you are trying to build muscle to reduce the risk of injury. Beginners should limit themselves to two workouts a week, increasing to three per week once they have gained more experience and conditioning.

If you are interested in bulking up, then concentrate on squatting, squats and dead lifts. These exercises yield maximum benefits fast and let you continue building muscle. You can add more exercises to your workout regimen, but these three should really be at the core.

TIP! The key goal of any muscle building workout is to improve your strength. You can tell if you are stronger by keeping track of the weights and reps you do each workout.

It is important to limit the amount of your workouts to 3 to 4 times per week. This allows your body the time it needs to repair and rebuild themselves with a bit of rest.

TIP! Be careful when deciding which moves you will do with more weight; some moves are not favorable to extra weight. Avoid using excessive weight when performing dips, squats or anything that puts strain on your neck muscles.

It can be difficult, at times, to build muscle. You must not only maintain strict workout schedules, but you must also maintain a high intensity as well. Make sure you pay close attention to what you eat as well. Putting in a big effort and not succeeding could discourage you. Don?t lose hope! Follow the tips that have been provided here and you will be on your way to seeing those goals become a reality.

Now that you have a firm foundation when it comes to
http://www.travelandtaxis.com/page/2/, you can proceed with any plans that you might have. Make sure you remember the advice from this article, and you will be just fine. Before too long you?ll be able to get everything you were looking for.
