a new opinion in Computer about Apple iPad with Retina display Wi-Fi (ME392B/A)

Product Type: Apple Tablet PCs / eBook Readers

Newest Review:?... the one charger for both. With the extensive range of apps available from the Apple Store, the iPads possibilities are endless!... more

I received the iPad with retina display as a birthday present and after setting up and playing around with the basics, I was already addicted! The iPad has almost completely replaced my pc, which I now only use when I need flash player! It also looks great - so sleek and shiny and sexy! The iPad is slim and light, making it very portable and easy to fit into your handbag or briefcase.

Perfect for surfing, the wifi is quick, the google search bar is handy and bookmarking is a doddle. The touch screen has just the right amount of sensitivity and the on screen keyboard is just the right size (my partner is usually complaining that touch screen keyboards are too small but this poses no problem for his big hands!). Of course, for those who do have trouble typing, the iPad has a clever little feature which converts speech into text - this can be used for anything from updating your Facebook status to word processing.

The 5MP iSight camera (on the back) is better than any I have previously encountered, and the 1080p HD video is perfect for watching movies. FaceTime is simple, with the front camera capable of 720p HD video and excellent microphone so your loved ones can see and hear you clearly as you chat to them from afar!

Battery life is good, and doesn't take forever to charge. I love that the lightning connector can be inserted any way up, but I do wish it had the same 30 pin connector as my iPod touch so I could use the one charger for both.

With the extensive range of apps available from the Apple Store, the iPads possibilities are endless!

Summary: Definitely worth the price paid!

Jury: Wis. man sane when he killed teen neighbor

By Dinesh Ramde, Associated Press

A Milwaukee man knew exactly what he was doing when he accused his teenage neighbor of burglary and fired a bullet into the boy's chest, a jury decided Friday, in a verdict that essentially guarantees 76-year-old John Henry Spooner will die behind bars.?

The same jury concluded Wednesday that Spooner was guilty of first-degree intentional homicide. That verdict advanced the trial to a second phase in which the jurors were asked to determine whether he was mentally ill at the moment he pulled the trigger.

Two doctors testified Friday that Spooner has anger issues and aggressive impulses, but that he was neither delusional nor detached from reality when he killed 13-year-old Darius Simmons last year.

Spooner never denied killing his next-door neighbor. He testified that he believed Darius was the one of the burglars who had broken into his home two days earlier and stolen four shotguns that had deep sentimental value. He also testified that he wanted to kill Darius' brother after the older boy ran into the street to help his dying brother. But Spooner didn't fire because he might endanger other people around them.

Dr. Robert Rawski, a court-appointed forensic psychologist, said that level of recognition shows how clearly Spooner was thinking at that moment.

"He opted not to (shoot) because there as a couple and a child in the distance. He did not want to chance it," Rawski said, recalling his interview with Spooner last year. "This is an individual who ... recognized the environment around him. His anger was very specific. He had inflicted injury in his perceived justice."

Police searched Darius' home after the shooting but found no stolen weapons.

If the jury had found Spooner mentally incompetent he could have faced life in a mental institution. Instead he faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison. The judge has the option to set a possible parole date. Wisconsin does not have the death penalty.

The strongest piece of evidence against Spooner was footage from his own surveillance cameras, which showed him confronting Darius on the sidewalk and pointing a handgun at him. The boy backpedaled a few steps with his hands up. Spooner then exchanged words with Darius' mother on her porch off screen, and then turned and fired one shot at Darius' chest.

The teen fled, and Spooner fired a second shot that missed. He tried to shoot a third time but the gun jammed.

Darius died a few moments later across the street, in his mother's arms.

Spooner, who testified against his attorney's advice, told the jury he killed Darius because he wanted his guns back. Prosecutor Mark Williams suggested Spooner was out for revenge.

"I wouldn't call it revenge," Spooner replied. "I would call it justice."?

Mac Haik Realty to move forward on next Energy Corridor tower

Courtesy Mac Haik

Mac Haik Realty is moving forward with the development of the Energy Tower IV, a speculative, Class A office building in the Energy Corridor.

Mac Haik Realty said Thursday it is moving forward with the development of the Energy Tower IV, a speculative, Class A office building in the Energy Corridor.

The 17-story, 450,000-square-foot tower will be identical to the Energy Towers II and III at Kirkwood and Interstate 10.

Energy Tower IV is scheduled to break ground in August with occupancy slated for late 2014.

Energy Tower III topped out last week, and Houston-based Technip USA Inc. ? which leased the entire tower in April ? is expected to move in by the end of January, said Steve Bryant, director of leasing. Energy Towers I, II and III are all 100 percent leased.

MHR is using the same team that was assembled to develop the other three office buildings to develop the tower in Energy Plaza. The team consists of Houston-based Morris Architects, Sugar Land-based E.E. Reed as general contractor and the Houston office of Day, Brown, Rice providing the engineering component. Professional Construction Services' Houston office will provide interior construction services, and Mac Haik Realty will provide project management services as well as property management services.

Bryant and Senior Vice President Brandon Poynter will handle the leasing of Energy Tower IV.

MLB.com updates At Bat iOS app with All-Star goodies, new iPhone UI

MLBcom updates At Bat iOS app for the AllStar break with iPhone UI, inprogress highlights

Even the most ardent baseball fans have to admit it's a long season. So it's perhaps wise that MLB.com has just trotted out an update for its At Bat iOS app just before the All-Star break, all the better to get you in the mood for the more interesting second half. First off, it'll let you access the All-Star week hoopla like the home run derby and the game itself. You'll also get new tweaks like in-progress game highlights and custom MLB news push notifications, while iPhone users will see a brand new UI and real-time game day data. All that should carry you into the playoff stretch and the next update, assuming MLB.com follows form from last year -- at which point, hopefully your team's still in the mix.

The sportswriter who made Twitter cry

This pic of brothers Greg Day, from left, Anthony Day and Steven Bennett inspired Richard Deitsch to ask Twitter users for their best photo moments.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sportswriter asks for photos that capture life's best moments
  • Hundreds of images have been shared so far
  • Births, proposals, reunions among the moments shared

(CNN) -- Richard Deitsch was perusing Twitter when one photo made him stop. At first glance it's unremarkable, not much different from any other victory photo. It's a bit grainy and shows three young men smiling and hugging.

One of the men had just won an NCAA hockey championship at Yale.

Deitsch said he was struck by something more than just the photo. He knew the man who posted it, Steven Bennett, host of a Buffalo-based sports podcast. Bennett is in the picture celebrating his younger brother's victory, despite having just spent more than six weeks in the hospital.

"You gotta come now," Bennett remembers his younger brother, Anthony Day, telling him over the phone. Bennett made it for the semifinal, which his brother's team won in overtime. For the final game, Bennett was joined by 23 family members, one of whom snapped the photo of all three brothers embracing.

"I thought to myself how remarkable it was to have an image of what was clearly one of the best moments of Steven's life," Deitsch said. "I wondered: How many others have a similar image? So I took to Twitter and asked," he said. He credited @Sports_Casters, one of Bennett's accounts, for the idea in his tweet.

And just like that, the heart of the Internet broke wide open.

"I could never have expected what came next," he said.

Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) has more than 84,000 followers on Twitter. He is a writer and reporter for Sports Illustrated and adjunct professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. He considers himself well-versed on the power of social media. By comparison, @Sports_Casters is a tiny account with only 676 followers. But as people began responding to Deitsch with their birth, reunion and marriage proposal photos, they were also sharing them with @Sports_Casters. Both were humbled and grateful for the opportunity to showcase the best of humanity.

Hundreds of photos have been shared with both accounts, and continue coming in, Deitsch said. Scrolling through his newsfeed, one finds photos of a child's first day of school and high school graduations. A child meeting a sibling for the first time and a baby recovering from open-heart surgery. But there are also unexpected moments of joy witnessed, like a long-married couple exchanging a final goodbye, hard-earned sports victories, and the day a woman opens her eyes after undergoing a heart and double-lung transplant.

Ryan Kaltenbach (@RyanKaltenbach) sent that photo. He said it was taken by his mother-in-law in February of 2012 as they waited for his wife, Sharlie, to open her eyes in a hospital room in Palo Alto, California.

Sharlie was born with cystic fibrosis, a genetic and potentially life-threatening illness that attacks the lungs. Ryan said in the eight years they had been married, he had seen her health deteriorate to the point that she required oxygen to do the simplest tasks, including playing with their then 5-year-old son.

In the 17 months since the surgery, Ryan says Sharlie is unrecognizable.

"She swims. She exercises every day. It's a 180-degree difference," he said.

When Ryan first saw Deitsch's request for photos of best moments, he immediately knew what to send. He says he looks up to Deitsch a lot and finds him a great person to follow on Twitter.

"I am stunned at the volume and how many strangers trusted me with their images," Deitsch says. "But I'm not stunned at the humanity because it exists on Twitter, even amid the hate and snark."

When asked what he learned from this experiment, he said, "It reinforced what I already know: The power of social media is stunning. Nothing about this was expected or planned which is why it's the best thing I've ever done on Twitter."

Sexy 'Project Runway' poster banned in L.A.

TV

Image: Project Runway

Lifetime

"Project Runway" host Heidi Klum and mentor Tim Gunn are the only clothed people in the show's poster for the new season.

"Project Runway" was not able to make it work, as mentor Tim Gunn might say.

The design competition's sexy new poster, which features Gunn and host/judge Heidi Klum dressed in costumes while naked female and male models worship at their feet, is not being allowed to go up on display in Los Angeles, Lifetime confirmed to Variety.

Some of the women's back ends and sideboobs are visible in the image. (See the full racy image on Klum's Twitter account.)

Variety reports that according to Los Angeles' Department of Building and Safety, signage that has "obscene matters" can be banned by the city.

The supermodel poked a little fun at the poster on Twitter Tuesday night, joking, ".@ProjectRunway Designers! We need clothing for these people! Fast!"

Season 12 of "Project Runway" premieres July 18 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.

China reportedly to lift ban on video game consoles

SlashGear writes, Back on January 28, we heard a rumor that China was considering lifting a ban on gaming consoles, something that was reported by Reuters. It has been six months, and now we?re hearing this again, only the sources claim that the lift will go in effect with a stipulation that game makers must produce the consoles in Shanghai?s free-trade zone. In the summer of 2000, the Chinese government elected to ban video game consoles due to concern of the effects they could have on the mental health of its young citizens, particularly concerning violent video games. Under the ban, video game consoles?

Full text of letter Aaron Hernandez sent New England Patriots before 2010 NFL Draft

Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was flagged by many NFL teams for "character concerns" before the 2010 draft, mostly because he smoked marijuana while at the University of Florida and was viewed as a high risk for a potential suspension once he reached the NFL.

Hernandez, viewed by many teams as a first-round talent, took a unique tactic to try to assuage teams' concerns: He wrote a letter to Patriots personnel executive Nick Caserio in which he admitted past mistakes and offered to take up to eight drug tests during the 2010 season if the Patriots were willing to draft him.

It is unclear if Hernandez also sent the letter to other teams. Here is the full text of the letter, which was written with help from Hernandez's agents at Athletes First:

Dear Mr. Caserio,

I am writing in regards to some of the feedback I am receiving from my agents, Florida coaches, and other personnel. These sources have indicated that NFL teams have questions about my alleged use of marijuana. I personally answered these questions during the pre-draft process, but understand that NFL teams want to conduct thorough due diligence before making the significant financial investment inherent in a high draft pick. I have no issue with these questions being asked, but thought that it made the most sense to communicate with you directly regarding this issue so you would not have to rely upon second-hand information.

Any information I volunteer to you about my past will be looked at with great skepticism as I am trying to get drafted as high as possible by an NFL team. As such, I thought that the best way to answer your questions and your concerns was to make a very simple proposition. If you draft me as a member of the New England Patriots, I will willfully submit to a bi-weekly drug test throughout my rookie season (8 drug tests during the 2010 regular season). In addition, I will tie any guaranteed portion of my 2010 compensation to these drug tests and reimburse the team a pro-rata amount for any failed drug test. My agents have explained that a direct forfeiture provision in my contract along these lines would violate the CBA rules. However, I have instructed them to be creative in finding a contract structure that would work on in the worst case scenario, I would donate the pro-rata portion of any guaranteed money to the team's choice of charities. My point is simple -- if I fail a drug test, I do not deserve that portion of the money.

I realize that this offer is somewhat unorthodox, but it is also the only way I could think of to let you know how serious I am about reaching my potential in the NFL. My coaches have told you that nobody on our Florida team worked harder than me in terms of workouts, practices or games. You have your own evaluation as to the type of impact I can have on your offense. The only X-factor, according to the reports I have heard, is concerns about my use of recreational drugs. To address that concern, I am literally putting my money where my mouth is and taking the financial risk away from the team and putting it directly on my back where it belongs.

In closing, I ask you to trust me when I say you have absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to me and the use of recreational drugs. I have set very high goals for myself in the NFL and am focused 100% on achieving those goals. So, test me all you want during my rookie year ... all of the results will be negative while I am having an overwhelmingly positive impact on the field.

Good luck with your preparations for the NFL Draft and feel free to contact me or my agency (Athletes First/David Dunn) with any questions.

Sincerely,

Aaron Hernandez
University of Florida

Patriots owner Robert Kraft, speaking publicly Monday for the first time since Hernandez was arrested, said the Patriots felt comfortable drafting Hernandez after receiving this letter, and didn't believe he had any other major off-field issues.

"The only thing I ever heard on Aaron Hernandez was he was very young, immature and potentially had problems presented in this letter," Kraft said. "Never saw signs of anything else."

FAQ: Are Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) Health ...

FAQ: Are Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) Health Insurance?

A Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) is not health insurance. Rather, it is an employer-sponsored healthcare and premium reimbursement program. And yet, an HRA benefit is often compared to (or mistaken as) health insurance. Why? Because many businesses offer a stand-alone?HRA benefit?as an alternative to offering traditional health insurance.

hra health insurance

But as the logic goes, if an HRA looks like an insurance plan, and acts like an insurance plan... isn't it an insurance plan? No. And here's why.

HRAs Are Medical Reimbursement Plans, Not Health Insurance

HRAs are an IRS-approved way for employers to reimburse employees for individual health insurance policies and eligible medical expenses. In other words, HRAs are a vehicle for tax-free healthcare and premium reimbursement.

An HRA is a Section 105 ERISA self-funded health plan. With a stand-alone HRA, the business steps away from selecting a specific insurance plan for all employees. Instead, the business allows employees to purchase a health insurance policy that fits their needs, and reimburses employees for eligible medical expenses tax-free up to the amount of their HRA allowance. This type of HRA benefit is also referred to as a defined contribution health benefit model.

Using an HRA is one of the only ways a business can pay for employees' individual health insurance plans in a compliant way. That's because HIPAA and ERISA restricts an employer's involvement in the sale or administration of employees' individual health insurance policies. Using a formal HRA benefit removes the employer from having any involvement?in the policies employees are purchasing. An HRA keeps the employer compliant with HIPAA, ERISA, and the IRS.

For more on details on HRA requirements and compliance see:?HRA plan requirements.

HRAs?- An Alternative to Traditional Health Insurance

Many small and medium businesses cannot offer health insurance coverage due to rising costs and minimum contribution and participation requirements.?Because of this, and because of new opportunities with health reform in 2014, many businesses see HRA benefits as a viable alternative to traditional group health insurance. This is because:

  1. In 2014, individual policies become guaranteed issue, and eliminate the non-economic (i.e. moral) factors from an employer?s decision-making process.

  2. Most employees will pay less for health insurance on the individual market due to federal subsidies available through the state health insurance Marketplaces.?

  3. For small businesses with less than 50 FTE employees,?there is no employer mandate?and no penalties for not offering group health insurance. And for many businesses with 50+ FTE employees, the total cost of paying the employer penalty (now delayed until 2015) plus providing an HRA defined contribution health benefit will be less expensive than group health insurance. Additionally, the only way for employers to give employees access to the individual premium tax subsidies is by?not offering group health insurance.?

A Guide To Building Muscle For Better Health! | Travel, fitness, life ,

Building muscle can be a challenging proposition. It can be devastating to not achieve the results you desire. The following article will help ensure your success.

TIP! Giving into your carnivorous side can help you build muscle. Eat approximately one gram of meat-protein per body pound.

Focus on important exercises such as the deadlift, squat, and the bench press. These three exercises are the foundation of a solid muscle-building regimen. They are exercises that are proven to build strength, increase muscle mass, and improve the effectiveness of future workouts. Try to utilize these crucial exercises into your workout routine.

TIP! As a source of motivation, set goals that are short-termed and reward yourself when each goal is attained. Because growing muscle requires you remain committed in the long run, it is extremely important that you constantly remain motivated.

Don?t forget carbohydrates when trying to build muscle. Carbs are vital for energy so that you can last an entire workout, and if you are short on them, your body converts your stored protein for energy instead.

TIP! Many people make the mistake of increasing their protein consumption as soon as they begin a muscle building regimen. Doing so may lead to excessive calorie consumption, which might then cause you to gain weight in the form of body fat.

If you plan on using any type of creatine supplement to help build your muscles, be very cautious, especially when taking them for an extended period of time. These supplements should not be used if you have any sort of kidney issues. They have been shown to cause heart arrhythmia, heart arrhythmia, and compartment syndrome. Adolescents using this supplement are particularly at the highest risk. Be sure you keep your doctor before starting use.

TIP! It is important to stay hydrated when building muscle. Unless your body is hydrated at all times, you run a higher risk of injury or muscle damage.

Do not extend your workouts to more than an hour.Your body will begin to produce cortisol, called cortisol, if you push beyond sixty minutes. Cortisol blocks testosterone and thwart your efforts to build muscle. Making sure workouts are less than an hour is the best results.

Many people make the mistake of increasing their protein they need in their diet at the beginning of their muscle development efforts.

TIP! Stick to a realistic schedule when you are trying to build muscle to reduce the risk of injury. Beginners should limit themselves to two workouts a week, increasing to three per week once they have gained more experience and conditioning.

If you are interested in bulking up, then concentrate on squatting, squats and dead lifts. These exercises yield maximum benefits fast and let you continue building muscle. You can add more exercises to your workout regimen, but these three should really be at the core.

TIP! The key goal of any muscle building workout is to improve your strength. You can tell if you are stronger by keeping track of the weights and reps you do each workout.

It is important to limit the amount of your workouts to 3 to 4 times per week. This allows your body the time it needs to repair and rebuild themselves with a bit of rest.

TIP! Be careful when deciding which moves you will do with more weight; some moves are not favorable to extra weight. Avoid using excessive weight when performing dips, squats or anything that puts strain on your neck muscles.

It can be difficult, at times, to build muscle. You must not only maintain strict workout schedules, but you must also maintain a high intensity as well. Make sure you pay close attention to what you eat as well. Putting in a big effort and not succeeding could discourage you. Don?t lose hope! Follow the tips that have been provided here and you will be on your way to seeing those goals become a reality.

Now that you have a firm foundation when it comes to
http://www.travelandtaxis.com/page/2/, you can proceed with any plans that you might have. Make sure you remember the advice from this article, and you will be just fine. Before too long you?ll be able to get everything you were looking for.

Blaming India for terror aimed at ‘killing peace prospects’

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE - Blaming intelligence agencies of India and Afghanistan for their role in terrorism in Pakistan at this point of time is nothing but an attempt to sabotage the efforts of the newly elected government on evolving broad-based national consensus to tackle the scourge of terrorism in the country, political and defence analysts say.
Some government sources also maintained that these efforts were aimed at creating mistrust between Pakistan and India and disrupting ruling PML-N?s efforts to develop friendly relations with India to evolve common strategy for fighting terrorism and extremism.
"Blaming foreign hands at this stage is to deflect efforts of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his government in tackling terrorism,? leading defence analyst Lt-Gen(r) Talat Massod quipped. He questioned the credibility of the media reports in this regard and said these were in contradiction to the gestures of Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who appears to reciprocate positively to Nawaz Sharif's initiative to normalise relations with India as well as Afghanistan.
General Talat was of the view that such media reports were not valid since the Americans have very deep intelligence network in Pakistan, therefore, blaming foreign hands for scourge of terrorism in the country would not be appropriate proposition. He rather urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PTI chief Imran Khan to join hands and foil such attempts, which are ostensibly aimed at undermining efforts of their governments in tackling terrorism.
Although there was no official input immediately available from the ISPR, credible military sources said that Pakistan Army as well as the national security agencies were in process of finalising their respective assessments on challenges related to terrorism in the country for the government consumption. ?These are mere conjectures as final assessment has yet to come from the relevant quarters,? sources said while commenting on the reports.
On the other hand, PTI central information secretary Dr Shireen Mizari said that government was not sincere in addressing the issue of terrorism as situation warrants practical steps to tackle the challenge rather than wasting time on rhetoric. She said her party would participate in the upcoming APC being convened by the government and would give its proposals.
?It is very easy to blame others and cover own failure behind a conspiracy theory. It has been practice of (almost) all governments of the country to blame others instead of accepting the failure in maintaining the law and order,? said Dr Mehdi Hasan, political commentator and Dean of Faculty of Social Studies at Beaconhouse National University, Lahore. Dr Hasan was of the view that ongoing killings and bomb blasts were occurring due to shortcomings of our intelligence agencies. He sees three major forces at play behind terrorism in Pakistan ? sectarianism, Taliban and criminal mafia. He was of the view that Balochistan separatists? activities were limited to that province.
Dr Mehdi said, ?The enemy always takes benefit of weaknesses. Suppose someone thinks India is the enemy then what one should expect from the enemy.? If RAW, Mossad or NDS are involved in terrorism in Pakistan, who is responsible to stop them, he questioned. He claimed that India was not in a position to carry out covert offensive activities on the soil of any other country as it was pre-occupied with its own security related issues.
Mehdi said there was no border between Pakistan and Afghanistan and the same people were behind the terrorist activities in both countries. He said Hamid Karzai government had failed in Afghanistan and now he was blaming Pakistan for his failure. He claimed that America had no more interest in the issues being faced by Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Former federal minister and political analyst Dr Mubashir Hasan said that no doubt intelligence agencies operate in other countries but had the RAW been involved in spreading terrorism in Pakistan, our intelligence agencies would have been able to unearth the perpetrators.
But, he said, our agencies never talked about the involvement of RAW in bombings and killings in Pakistan. He said government had failed to arrest the attackers because masses in general were not interested in helping the government in this.
ANP leader Haji Adeel said that when Taliban and Lashkar-e-Jhanvi owned the bombings and killings, ?how we can blame intelligence agency of any other country?. He said in 90 percent cases, some home grown terrorist organisation accepts the responsibility of the attack. He further said country?s ground intelligence network has been badly damaged due to which they fail to get information.

"Extinct" Northern Mexican Garter Snake Re-discovered in New Mexico

    Jul 08, 2013 06:48 AM EDT

Biologists found three individuals of a snake species that was once considered to be extinct.? The northern Mexican garter snakes were discovered last month near the Gila river.

The snakes were re-discovered by?Herpetologists from the ABQ BioPark Zoo?after a gap of 20 years since the last sighting of Thamnophis eques or northern Mexican gartersnake in New Mexico.

    Like Us on Facebook

There are about eight types of garter snakes in New Mexico, with the North Mexican garter snake being the rarest. It was last seen in the 1990s.

The snake was earlier found in Arizona, southwestern New Mexico and parts of Mexico, The Associated Press reported.

These snakes live in wetlands and in the past century their habitat has been reduced by a whopping?90 percent. Habitat loss along with presence of non-native predators such as bullfrogs, have been responsible for its near-extinction.

Biologists collected DNA sample, tagged and released two snakes while another snake was brought back to Albuquerque for identification. The male snake is currently being kept in quarantine and will be joining reptiles in the Conservation Gallery of the Reptile House. Biologists have planned to breed the snakes at the zoo.

"This is a huge find for our team. We have spent nearly three years and thousands of man-hours looking for the northern Mexican gartersnake," said Doug Hotle, Curator of Reptiles and Amphibians in a?press release. "Although many have written this species off for the state, we thought it was still here somewhere undetected. This discovery means there is still hope for the species and its habitat."

McCain urges US to end military aid to Egypt as 30 die in clashes

By Ian Johnston, Staff Writer, NBC News

The United States should stop sending military aid to Egypt following the overthrow of its democratically elected president by the military, Senator John McCain said, as overnight street battles left at least 36 dead across the divided country.

Egypt?s military insists that ousting Islamist Mohammed Morsi on Wednesday was the will of the people as expressed by mass demonstrations calling for him to go.

PJ Crowley, former assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs and a fellow at George Washington University, joins MSNBC's Alex Witt to explain the diplomatic implications in Egypt. Crowley does think that a military coup took place in Egypt. He says that the U.S. gives a paltry amount of civilian aid and notes that the coup is an opportunity to curtail military aid and increase civilian aid. He explains the questions that arise including, will the military have a more effective interim rule than last year before Morsi was elected and can the opposition coalesce and rally behind a single view and person.

Secretary of State John Kerry approved $1.3 billion in annual U.S. military aid to Egypt ? the second largest recipient of such help after Israel ? only two months ago.

However, U.S. law prohibits financial assistance to any country whose elected head of state is deposed in a military coup.

Cairo's emblematic Tahrir Square and nearby approaches to the River Nile ? which were the focus of anti-Morsi demonstrations -- were largely empty early Saturday but were strewn with debris, The Associated Press reported.

Thousands of Morsi's Islamist supporters marched to the area Friday demanding his reinstatement but ended up fleeing under a hail of stones, fireworks and sometimes gunfire.

Hitha Prabhakar joins MSNBC's Alex Witt to break down the 3 Big Money Headlines. She mentions that oil analysts are watching the situation in Egypt and they are saying how it will negatively impact gas prices. She discussed the jobs numbers that came out on Friday and explains what hedge fund manager Ron Baron meant when he talked about the Dow reaching 60,000.

Mohammed Sultan, deputy head of the national ambulance service, told the AP that at least 36 people were killed in Friday's clashes, the highest death toll in one day since the latest outbreak of protests began last Sunday. Another 1,076 were injured.?

Morsi?s Muslim Brotherhood movement said the country had returned to the days of military rule under former President Hosni Mubarak. The Muslim Brotherhood was a banned organization for much of his rule.

"It's the old police state of Mubarak with every ingredient and nightmare that it had before the January 25 revolution. It's as if we hit the reset button,? Brotherhood spokesman Gehad El-Haddad told Reuters.

The Brotherhood?s website said some 3 million people had taken part in pro-Morsi demonstrations.

It issued four demands late Friday: Morsi?s return to office; the cancellation of all ?unconstitutional coup-related decisions, decrees and actions announced by the military council with which it usurped power;? the reinstatement of the constitution; and for officials to be held accountable for the killing of protesters and other ?oppressive tactics.?

The U.S. has avoided calling Morsi?s ouster a coup, which would mean aid would have to be suspended.

For hours, there was no security in sight as the fighting ensued. Guns, stones and even fireworks were used as weapons but Morsi's supporters were driven back by the anti-Morsi demonstrators, and the military. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

But, speaking in Prescott, Arizona, McCain said, ?I say that with great reluctance, but the United States of America I think must learn the lessons of history and that is: We cannot stand by without acting in cases where freely elected governments are unseated by the military arm of those nations.?

He said he believed U.S. aid had to be suspended, and called on the Egyptian military to set a timetable for elections and a new constitution.

?Then we should evaluate whether to continue the aid or not,? he said. ?I am aware that by suspending aid to the Egyptian military, which is the only stable institution in Egypt, we are risking further problems in the Sinai, and in other areas of cooperation with the Egyptian military.?

    Hassan Ammar / AP

Days of massive protests and a military ultimatum forced the country's first democratically elected president from office.

A new Islamist group calling itself Ansar al-Shariah in Egypt announced its formation amid the chaos, calling the army's ousting of Morsi a declaration of war on its faith and threatening to use violence to impose Islamic law.

The group said it would gather arms and start training its members, in a statement posted on an online forum for militants in the country's Sinai region on Friday and recorded by the SITE Monitoring organization, Reuters reported.

The group blamed the events on secularists, Egyptian Coptic Christians, state security forces and army commanders, who they said would turn the country into ?a crusader, secular freak.?

It denounced democracy and said it would instead champion Islamic law, or sharia, acquire weapons and train to allow Muslims to "deter the attackers, preserve the religion and empower the sharia of the Lord," SITE reported.

State-owned newspapers said the army-backed authorities would announce the appointment of a prime minister on Saturday to run the country during a transition period, Reuters reported. Former U.N. nuclear agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei, 71, a leading liberal politician, was seen as the most likely candidate to lead an administration focused on reviving a shattered economy and restoring civil peace and security.?

The U.S. State Department condemned the violence Friday.

Thousands of people marched in support of ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi, who is being held at an army barracks near the airport. The clashes continued in Cairo, Alexandria and Sinai where the army was on high alert. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

?We call on all Egyptian leaders to condemn the use of force and to prevent further violence among their supporters,? spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement.

?The voices of all who are protesting peacefully must be heard - including those who welcomed the events of earlier this week and those who supported President Morsy,? she added. ?The Egyptian people must come together to resolve their differences peacefully, without recourse to violence or the use of force."

The chaotic scenes that played out in the capital, mostly on a bridge leading to Tahrir, ended overnight only after the army rushed in with armored vehicles to separate the warring groups. Some of Morsi's opponents jumped on at least one vehicle to try to show that the military was on their side.

Across the country, clashes erupted as Morsi supporters tried to storm local government buildings or military facilities, battling police or Morsi opponents.

Islamists descended on anti-Morsi rally, opening fire with guns in the Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria, where at least 12 people were killed, mostly Morsi opponents, emergency services official Amr Salama said.

One man was stabbed and thrown from the roof of a building by Morsi supporters after he raised an Egyptian flag and shouted insults against the ousted president, according to an AP reporter at the scene.

Friday's turmoil began in the afternoon when army troops opened fire as hundreds of his supporters marched on the Republican Guard building in Cairo. That site is where Morsi was staying when he was toppled before being taken into military custody at an undisclosed location.

The crowd approached a barbed wire barrier where troops were standing guard. When one person hung a sign of Morsi on the barrier, soldiers tore it down and told the crowd to stay back. A protester put up a second sign, and the soldiers opened fire, according to an AP photographer.

The Health Ministry said a total of four were killed at the site, though it was not known how all died.?

Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

A brewing storm: How fire turned tragic for 19 men

YARNELL, Ariz. (AP) ? Juliann Ashcraft had just put the kids down for a nap when her cellphone buzzed. It was a text from Andrew, her husband of seven years and, still, her best friend.

"This is my lunch spot," he wrote beneath a photo of hard-hatted firefighters sitting on boulders, watching smoke rise on the horizon. "too bad lunch was an MRE," the text concluded.

    It was 2:16 p.m. on June 30.

That Sunday morning, Ashcraft and the other 19 members of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew had been deployed to the ranching community of Yarnell to fight yet another wildfire. The crew had barely gotten home from a different blaze when word came that the team was needed again.

"I think I will be down there for a while on this one," 29-year-old Ashcraft had told his wife via text.

The father of four always seized every opportunity to call or text Juliann while out on a job ? even if it meant hiking to the top of a mountain to get a signal. Still, during the summer wildfire season, it was not unusual for the couple to go weeks on end without any communication. This day, so far, had been different.

That afternoon Juliann texted to report that it was raining at their house in nearby Prescott. She told her husband how much she wished he could be there, watching the drops fall with her and the kids.

"We could really use some rain over here," he replied.

With that, their exchanges stopped. Thanks to the photo, Juliann could at least picture where Andrew was. But while it offered some comfort, the image was also foreboding.

Off in the distance, from behind a ridge line, billowed a sickly, blackish-brown plume ? spreading like a bruise across the graying sky.

    ___

The blaze had ignited two days earlier with a lightning strike along the Date Creek Mountains above Yarnell. Once known as "Rich Hill" for the acres of gold nuggets discovered by prospectors in the 1860s, the town lies 80 miles northwest of Phoenix at 4,800 feet above sea level, leading to the motto, "Where a Desert Breeze Meets the Mountain Air."

The slopes that surround the community are laden with manzanita, evergreen, mountain mahogany and oak. Though next-door to national forestland that regularly sees fire activity, this particular area had not burned in some 40 years and was deep into a drought ? making it far more susceptible to fire.

Still, at first, officials determined this blaze to be small, posing no immediate threat to Yarnell's 700 residents.

Around 10 a.m. Saturday, the Arizona State Forestry Division called in a pair of air tankers, a helicopter, some fire engines and a couple of hand crews. By nightfall, the fire was just 15 acres in size, though the town fire department warned residents: "Be on high alert if the wind changes direction."

Overnight the blaze grew to 200 acres, and by Sunday morning officials were transitioning to a larger command team to oversee firefighting efforts and calling in more personnel.

Around 6 a.m., Darrell Willis, chief of the Prescott Fire Department's Wildland Fire Division, was loading his truck with containers of eggs, sausage, potatoes and fruit for the crews when his phone rang. It was Eric Marsh, superintendent of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, who were based out of Willis' department.

"Hey, chief," Marsh said. "We're coming down to the fire."

At 43, the North Carolina native was the oldest member of the Hotshot team and its founder. Within six years of its beginning as a fuels mitigation unit in 2002, the Granite Mountain group had joined the elite Hotshot community ? the first such crew attached to a municipal department.

Marsh and Willis had worked together for years, and were close friends as well as colleagues.

Willis gave Marsh the rundown: Active fire. Lots of homes potentially at risk.

"It's one of those days," he warned.

Then Willis ended the conversation the way he does anytime he's speaking to a firefighter.

    "Be safe," he told Marsh.

    ___

By 9:30 a.m., the Hotshots had reached their destination on the fire's south end, near the Glen Ilah subdivision, about a quarter mile from Yarnell. The area had already been bulldozed, so the crew used chain saws, axes and other gear to build a line between the blaze and the town in case the winds changed and blew flames their way. Following standard procedure, they also mapped out an escape route.

Most of the fire activity had been restricted to the north end of the blaze. But in rugged, hilly terrain like that where the Hotshots were working, any thunder activity or downdrafts can cause winds to shift and flames to shoot in all directions, fire experts say.

In part, for that very reason, each crew always has at least one member serving as a lookout, stationed where he can watch the fire's behavior and radio changes in conditions to the team.

That Sunday, Granite Mountain Hotshot Brendan McDonough was the eyes for the other 19 ? assigned to a nearby hillside to provide reports to the crew and keep watch on "trigger points," locations that when reached or crossed by a fire dictate a move to safer ground.

As the Hotshots attacked the blaze from the ground and aircraft dropped retardant from above, Yarnell school board member Eric Lawton was returning home from a trip. At 2 p.m., he saw fire close to the elementary school and to a few homes, but Lawton still believed Yarnell to be safe. At the time, a weather station 6 miles away showed winds coming from the southwest at 10 mph.

Lawton even joked with some new residents watching the flames from their front yards. "Welcome to Yarnell," he hollered facetiously.

Soon, Lawton's casual mood turned dark when a neighbor reported that town evacuations were underway. A thunderstorm was brewing, and the winds had shifted nearly 180 degrees ? sending flames racing into Yarnell, where Lawton's small, block home sat at the base of a hill.

"It was brown, then it was black, it then turned red and the flames topped the hill," Lawton would later recall. "And I knew I had to get out."

It was approaching 5 p.m., and the winds were now coming from the north at 26 mph, with gusts to 43 mph.

From his lookout post, McDonough saw the shift in winds and the fire suddenly coming toward him. He radioed down to his crewmates, telling them his trigger point had been reached, and that he was heading for safe ground.

As a Prescott fire official would later recount, McDonough told his team to contact him on the radio if they needed anything. Then he rode away with a firefighter from another Hotshot team. When last he looked, McDonough's lookout position had already burned over in the flames.

At 4:47 p.m., Eric Marsh did radio to fire commanders, and his message was utterly terrifying. The 19 remaining Hotshots were deploying their emergency fire shelters ? lightweight cocoons made of reflective material intended as a firefighter's last resort.

Willis, the Prescott wildland fire chief, was in his pickup outside Yarnell, listening to the Hotshots' tactical frequency, when he heard a garbled message from Marsh that he couldn't quite make out. Then his cellphone rang.

"Did you hear that?" a supervisor asked him. All Willis could think was, "Not those guys." His guys.

    Then he began to pray.

Over and over again, the radio crackled with a constant, heartbreaking summons:

"Are you there Granite Mountain? Are you there Granite Mountain?"

Maybe, thought Willis, they're just out of radio contact. Maybe, he hoped, his friends would walk out of that smoke at any minute.

Helicopters circled the area in an attempt to douse the flames. But the smoke was so thick crews could only guess at where to drop their loads.

As time wore on, Willis got back on the phone. He called his wife first, and then the head of the Prescott Fire Department.

He asked them to start praying, too.

    ___

Back in Prescott, Juliann Ashcraft was watching television with her children ? Ryder, 6; Shiloh, 4; Tate Andrew, 2; and Choice, 1.

Andrew Ashcraft was only in his third season with the Hotshots, but he'd been working toward the job for years. As a teenager, he attended fire camps. In high school, he'd spend hours after classes studying fire science.

While his love affair with firefighting predated his romance with Juliann, there was no question which passion burned hotter. The couple was still playful. When one would step outside the house for something, the other would lock the door and not open it until the exiled party performed a dance in front of the living room window.

When Andrew was home, he was the center of the family. He insisted on tucking the children in each night and leading them in their prayers. And when he was away, Juliann did her best to keep up their routines ? including their daily family ritual of taking turns talking about their happiest moment of the day, and their saddest.

It was about 7 p.m. when a television announcer came on with the report: A Hotshot crew had been overrun near Yarnell. Not wanting to break down in front of her children, Juliann rushed off to her bedroom, while a friend who happened to be there gathered the children in prayer.

A couple of miles away, Colleen Turbyfill was scanning Facebook when a news alert popped up about a Hotshot crew. Her stepson, Travis, was a member of the Granite Mountain team.

He'd been just 4 years old when he literally burst into her life. She was eating pizza with friends when the boy rushed up to her and asked if she could sew a button back on his shirt.

In 1990, she married Travis' father and adopted the precocious little boy who, even then, knew what he wanted to be one day. When Travis was in kindergarten, he drew a picture of a fire truck and titled it, "When I grow up."

"I want to be a fire man," he wrote. "I will fire fight the fires."

Strangely, he did not draw the typical red hook-and-ladder truck, but rather a pale green vehicle that closely resembles the type the Granite Mountain crew used.

Colleen had last seen Travis just days before, when he returned from working another blaze. That fire had threatened her own parents' home nearby. For the first time, the danger seemed too close.

"I know that you love it," she told him. "But I hate it now."

He had been saying all season that this would be his last as a Hotshot. Still dressed in his fire gear and reeking of smoke, he had wrapped Colleen in a bear hug and told her not to worry.

"We've got a great crew," the 27-year-old father of two young girls said. "I love what I do, and we're going to be OK."

Now she wondered if that were true. At 7:25 p.m., Colleen grabbed her phone and texted Travis' wife, Stephanie.

"Do you know where Travis is?"

"Yarnell," her daughter-in-law replied. "Haven't heard from him all day."

At 7:28, Colleen typed: "Heard there is a crew trapped surrounded by fire. They were ok but no way out. Worried sick. If you hear anything please let me know."

"How did you hear that?" Stephanie replied. "News??"

For a short time, no one knew who the lone survivor was. Each man's family prayed that their son-husband-brother had been the lucky one.

Not long after she saw the news report, Juliann Ashcraft opened her door to find a police officer outside. Andrew had not made it.

With family and friends to look after the children, she headed to Prescott's Mile High Middle School to grieve with the other families. There, officials gave some details of what had happened. They talked about a freak storm, and said the men appeared to have done everything by the book.

Juliann found some comfort in that, and also in learning that her husband and his friends were never left alone.

Willis and three other men sat vigil with the firefighters all night, until their bodies were removed the next morning and transported to a medical examiner's office. Nineteen American flags were brought to the scene, one to be draped over each man's body.

A week later, the fire these men died fighting burns on, although it is almost fully contained. It claimed property as well as lives, destroying more than 100 homes.

Autopsies of the 19 firefighters have been conducted, and an investigation into what happened here begun. But answers aren't expected still for months.

For now, these towns and these families can only grieve, and begin planning for funerals.

Across from the Granite Mountain crew's headquarters in downtown Prescott, a chain-link fence has become a makeshift shrine. Teddy bears, homemade banners, flower arrangements and fire department T-shirts from all over the country bake in the brutal summer sun.

On the Fourth of July, firefighter Nik Christian stopped by to pay his respects. The burly engine man based out of Flagstaff, Ariz., clambered up a small rise of river rock to clip one of his department's T-shirts to the fence. The Hotshots, he said, were his heroes.

"It's a whole different animal with them," said Christian, whose crew had been dispatched last Sunday to help fight the fire. "Very few people do exactly what they do."

Around the corner, Jennifer Parks of Phoenix was trying to explain to her 6-year-old son, Jake, that this was not where the fallen firefighters were buried.

"No, honey," she said gently. "This is where ... people come to pay their respects."

Jake's 4-year-old brother, Zak, stopped at a circle of tiny toy firetrucks and pointed to one that looked like one of his own back home.

"I have one I want to bring," he told his mom.

One of the family's good friends is a fire chief back in Phoenix. The boys have visited stations and gotten to climb on the engines.

"I want to be a fireman," Zak said. Then in the next breath he added, "I want to be Batman."

A few feet away, someone had placed a sign that read, "Real Heroes Don't Wear Capes." Zak's mother smiled.
